Experiencing Poverty
On April 6, the Episcopal Community Foundation for Middle and North Georgia will partner with the United Way of Greater Atlanta to conduct an interactive event for Episcopalians which will provide a small taste of what life is like for those living in poverty.
This is a great opportunity for those engaged in outreach ministry already and for those who are interested in learning more about how poverty affects our local communities. For more information and to register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/experiencing-poverty-an-intera…
Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families in the communities of the Diocese of Atlanta, but unless you’ve experienced poverty personally, it’s difficult to truly understand what day-to-day life feels like when you’re poor. Our goal is to help Episcopalians in our Diocese who are active in their parish outreach ministries to better understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month so that we can be more responsive and supportive to the communities we work with.
The event is $15/person and includes lunch:
9am Registration
9:45am Welcome and Opening Remarks
10am Poverty Simulation with United Way of Greater Atlanta
12pm Break/Pickup Lunch
12:15pm Debrief Session (while everyone eats)
1pm Closing Remarks
